Bob Anderson - Rockport, MA

Born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1934, I completed my art education at the Art Institute of Chicago, concentrating in drawing, painting, and illustration. In 1957 I was awarded the Frank G. Logan Medal for painting. After serving in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1957 to 1959, I lived in Chicago, painting and designing displays for the Chicago Natural History Museum. In 1964, my wife, Peg, and I moved to New York’s East Village. I painted and did commercial display work and loft renovation. In 1969 we moved to Rockport, where I built our house on the old granite foundation of Edmunds Hall in Pigeon Cove. I worked as a carpenter, cabinet-maker, and framer while continuing to paint.

I work in oil and mixed media and create sculptures in wood. I draw inspiration from the rich history of visual art. To me, the process of painting is the elusive search for visual completeness.
